John I. and Margaret with their family
This portrait of John and Margaret Burgess and their family was taken about 1886. Standing are Irving, David, John, and Alex. On the front row are Thomas, John I., Mollie, Margaret, and Maggie.
John and Margaret (Wilson) Burgess were born, grew up,
and were married in Ireland. John was born on June 24, 1847, in County
Fermanagh in the southwest corner of Northern Ireland.
John and Margaret were married and remained in Ireland for a month
after their wedding on February 21, 1868. Margaret’s Uncle and Aunt
who had migrated to Kansas several years earlier wrote home about the
opportunities in America. This sounded attractive to John and Margaret
who decided to move to Kansas to join Uncle William and Aunt Rebecca
Burgess.

Patriarch of the Kansas Burgess family line. Born on June 24, 1847 in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. Married to Margaret Wilson on Feb. 21st, 1868 at Cleenish Parish Church in Bellanaleck, 6 miles south of Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
