George Scott was born in 1832 at Satchels, Roxburghshire, Scotland, which is in the region of Scotland called "The Borders". He was the son of Andrew Scott and Elizabeth (Ballantyne) Scott. 

He emigrated to the USA in 1854, "working his way" to Illinois. George married Esther Barber in 1869 at Plainsfield, Illinois.  They later moved to Pottawatomie County, Kansas, to the home where Mabel (Karen Meek's grand-mother) was born. He was father to seven children: Frederich, Carrie, William, Charles, Norton, Harvey & Mabel.

George died in that same farm home in 1904, at the age of 71.
