George Scott was born in 1832 at Satchels, Roxburghshire, Scotland. He emigrated to the USA in 1854 and "worked his way" to Illinois. George married Esther Barber in 1869 in Plainsfield, Illinois. George died in 1904, at age 71, at his Pott. County, Kansas farm home.

Esther Barber was born in 1848 at Norwich, New York. She was reportedly adopted, though no records have been researched (by Karen) to date, to verify that statement. She died in 1896, at the age of 47, at her Pott. County, Kansas home. Her daughter Mabel was only nine years old at the time of Esther's death.  Mabel's older sister, Carrie, was a mother figure to her.
