Great-great grandchildren of Wm. & Rebecca (Wilson) Burgess meet 9-28-06
Meryln B., Barbara M. and Gary Burgess (owner of land) met at the site where Wm. and Rebecca (Wilson) Burgess (their great-great grandparents) settled, when they emigrated from Northern Ireland to Kansas.
Wm. and Rebecca were reportedly the first members of the Burgess family
to come to USA, to New Orleans in 1850. Then they moved to Pottawatomie
County, Kansas(currently Gary Burgess farm) in 1862. This gathering in
2006 offered a west coast relative (Merlyn B.) a chance to see the
foundation of the ancestral home, the well and their graves at Pleasant
Hill Cemetery.
John I. and Margaret (Wilson) Burgess, who immigrated in 1868 from N. Ireland to Kansas, lived with these relatives until their first log cabin was built.
(Karen Meek was contacted by e-mail when Merlyn saw the Burgess website. Karen arranged the meeting & tour. the interchange of genealogy data and family history was enriched by the presence of Mrs. Denny (Barbara) Burgess that afternoon.)
